  1. FEATHERED FRIEND FEEDERS
  2.  
  3. YOU'LL NEED:
  4. Cookie cutters (optional)
  5. Stale bread
  6. Table knife
  7. Peanut butter
  8. Sunflower seeds or wheat germ
  9. Pie plate
  10. 1 plastic drinking straw
  11. Tape
  12. About 12 inches of yarn or string

  14. STEP 1
  15. If you like, use cookie cutters to cut out shapes from stale bread.  Or just leave the bread whole.
  16.  
  17. STEP 2
  18. Using a table knife, carefully spread peanut butter onto 1 side of the bread. Then place the nuts into the pie plate.

  20. Next, lay the bread -- peanut butter side down -- onto the nuts. Coat it well!

  22. STEP 3
  23. Use a drinking straw to poke a hole near the center of the bread.  
  24.  
  25. Next, wrap a piece of tape around the end of a piece of yarn. Then pull the yarn through the hole in the bread.  Cut the tape off. Now just hang the bread in a tree for the birds to eat! Now you've made a feathered friend feeder!

  28. FOR GROWN-UPS:
  29. Feeding birds can be fun. If you and your children start feeding birds near your home, explain to them that once you start, you must continue. Birds become dependent on the food your children supply.
